“You can totally wear it again!”

If you’ve ever been a bridesmaid in a wedding party, then surely while trying on dresses, you must have heard a happy bride-to-be exclaim at one point or another, “and the best part is, you can shorten it and wear it again!” Well, we’ll be honest with you–most of the time, that isn’t completely true.  Even a shortened bridesmaid’s dress can still scream “wedding party.”

Fortunately, The Tailor Maid has just the right eye (and team of tailors!) to transform that dress into a true “you can wear it again” look!

Which brings us to the quickly approaching Valentine’s Day–what better time to debut a re-styled and newly fabulous dress? Whether it’s out to dinner with your honey or a singles night with your ladies, no matter how you decide to celebrate, you’re sure to look fabulous while actually pulling off the “wear it again” wedding party urban legend.

The Tailor Maid can not only shorten that dress, but also add or remove design elements, add straps to a strapless design, and of course tailor it to perfection.

Come by and see us today with your bridesmaid’s dress (or any other dress for that matter!) and we’ll get you on your way for a Valentine’s Day dinner in style!

We’ll see you soon!

The Tailor Maid Makes Magic!

Imagine this: you’re shopping for a that specific dress/top/jacket/blouse you have in mind and you come across that almost perfect one….the perfect dress if the hem was four inches longer….the perfect blouse if it only had sleeves….it has happened to all of us. In this world of infinite choices, wouldn’t it be nice if we had more options for customizing our clothing as well?

The Tailor Maid is taking tailoring to the next level with so many more options to make your wardrobe not only fit you perfectly, but give you more ways to amend your differences with your “almost perfect” pieces! Instead of putting that close-but-not-quite garment back on the rack, bring it to us and let us perform some fabric magic!

For this project, our client loved this bright pink top but wasn’t quite feeling the sleeve length–but she loved it so much that she purchased two, and we remade the sleeves to fit her desired length!

Before...sleeves too short!

By using the fabric from the second top, we were able to construct new sleeves to perfection!

After....just right!

Garment “problems” don’t have to be deal breakers: go from sleeveless to sleeves with ease. Go from “too short” to “totally appropriate” by adding a sheer over-layer for a longer look!  Mix and match colors and custom fabric choices to make your clothing truly unique!

Shell to sleeves? Add some sheer!

There are endless ideas and possibilities to customize and change your garments…come in to The Tailor Maid today and consult with one of our expert fitters to get started!

See you soon!

Restyle Diaries: Uptight to Just Right!

Most of you probably know by now that one of our favorite things to do at The Tailor Maid is restyle your older or perhaps out-of-date garments. We take great pride in our creative visions and our ability to update almost any style of clothing to fit today’s modern looks.

Take a look at how our skilled fitters and tailors transformed this very “90s-esque” wrap sweater into a more relaxed, bohemian inspired style:

Before...

In just a few steps, such as removing the belt and  loops that wrapped this sweater, and moving a button so the sweater buttoned in front, we’ve achieved a much different look. We’ve also added a few darts in back to give this sweater some shape, and we’ve got a whole new look!

...After!

There are many ways to restyle a garment–do you have trendy, outdated clothing in your closet that needs a bit of a “face lift?” Bring your garments into the The Tailor Maid today and have us overhaul your wardrobe!!

More bathing suit magic!

So by now, you’ve found that *almost* perfect bathing suit, have hopefully worn it a few times, and have avoided any painful sunburns so far this summer. I say “almost” not to insult your suit, but we all know that perfection is very hard to come by, especially in a bathing suit!  As we find so often to be true, the saying “its all in the details” rings true once again.

If your a halter top lover, I’m sure you might have experienced that annoying flouncy bow at the back of your neck from time to time, especially if you’ve got a suit with a thicker strap. Did you know we can change that closure too? Well, now you do. We can remove the extra fabric meant to tie in a knot or bow, and replace it with a swimsuit clip to reduce all that bulk–Ta Dah!! Life is simple again.

...After!

Bring your suit to The Tailor Maid today and let us work our magic on your summer suit!

Restyle Diaries: Mid-Drift Crisis!

At The Tailor Maid, we are known for fast quality alterations on a wide variety of garments, and also for our creative garment restyling abilities. Our experienced fitters and tailors are here for you to not only provide you with great fitting clothes, but to also  assist you with ideas on how to restyle your older pieces–pieces that may have past their fashionable prime. Perhaps you have a garment (or a few!) in your closet that you love and can’t bear to part with, but something just isn’t “right” about it anymore. As time goes by, fashions and styles change–and as Heidi Klum says, “one day you’re in, and the next day, you are out.” Luckily, we have the power to make sure your clothes can stay “in” for years to come!

Sometimes, it’s not a matter of style, but a matter or masking a “problem area” of your body and accenting a better feature. We ALL have parts of our bodies that we don’t like, and parts that we love. You’ll feel most confident when you are comfortable in your clothing, and are accenting your favorite features!

Here are two garments that need a little TLC–one is outdated, and the other needs to be tweaked to flatter the body better. Let us show you how a careful eye and some fine tuning can completely overhaul these looks!

Garment: Purple tank top.

Problem: Wearer wants to conceal her stomach area.

Before...

Solution? Creating ruching down the side seams hides a tummy! By creating extra volume, this technique gives the illusion of a flatter mid section…plus, it’s so pretty!

...After!

Next up……

Garment: Red boat neck sweater.

Problem: outdated neckline.

Before...

Solution? Remove the extra fabric from the collar to create an off the shoulder look. You’ve got a completely new garment that now instead of distracting from the face (and screaming 1992) accents a pair of great shoulders!

...After!

Viola! Now you see how two different types of alterations can dramatically change the look of a garment.

Here are three more reasons why reinventing your current wardrobe is a good thing.

1. It’s good for your wallet.

Shopping in your closet is a fun thing to do, not to mention a great idea in today’s economy. Tweaking garments you already have will cost less than buying all new pieces.

2.  It’s good for the environment.

Yep, it is. Reinventing your existing wardrobe instead of tossing old pieces means that less stuff ends up in landfills (even if you’re donating things, you never know where they will end up). Who knew that re-wearing last year’s duds would be so green? Also, there is still something to be said for quality investment pieces that are meant to go through seasons and not be tossed aside come fall. These are just the kind of garments that should be restyled, so they last a life time.

3. It’s sentimental.

What we wear says a lot about who we are and what we want to express to the world. The garments you buy and the places you bought them, wore them, or danced in them–they tell a story and hold memories of times in your life. It’s always nice to go shopping for new clothes, but nicer at times to pull out a sentimental piece that actually means something to you.

Come by and see us at The Tailor Maid in one of our two locations at the Stanford Shopping Center and Hillsdale Mall, and let us help you restyle your wardrobe!
