At The Tailor Maid, we are known for fast quality alterations on a wide variety of garments, and also for our creative garment restyling abilities. Our experienced fitters and tailors are here for you to not only provide you with great fitting clothes, but to also assist you with ideas on how to restyle your older pieces–pieces that may have past their fashionable prime. Perhaps you have a garment (or a few!) in your closet that you love and can’t bear to part with, but something just isn’t “right” about it anymore. As time goes by, fashions and styles change–and as Heidi Klum says, “one day you’re in, and the next day, you are out.” Luckily, we have the power to make sure your clothes can stay “in” for years to come!
Sometimes, it’s not a matter of style, but a matter or masking a “problem area” of your body and accenting a better feature. We ALL have parts of our bodies that we don’t like, and parts that we love. You’ll feel most confident when you are comfortable in your clothing, and are accenting your favorite features!
Here are two garments that need a little TLC–one is outdated, and the other needs to be tweaked to flatter the body better. Let us show you how a careful eye and some fine tuning can completely overhaul these looks!
Garment: Purple tank top.
Problem: Wearer wants to conceal her stomach area.
Before...
Solution? Creating ruching down the side seams hides a tummy! By creating extra volume, this technique gives the illusion of a flatter mid section…plus, it’s so pretty!
...After!
Next up……
Garment: Red boat neck sweater.
Problem: outdated neckline.
Before...
Solution? Remove the extra fabric from the collar to create an off the shoulder look. You’ve got a completely new garment that now instead of distracting from the face (and screaming 1992) accents a pair of great shoulders!
...After!
Viola! Now you see how two different types of alterations can dramatically change the look of a garment.
Here are three more reasons why reinventing your current wardrobe is a good thing.
1. It’s good for your wallet.
Shopping in your closet is a fun thing to do, not to mention a great idea in today’s economy. Tweaking garments you already have will cost less than buying all new pieces.
2. It’s good for the environment.
Yep, it is. Reinventing your existing wardrobe instead of tossing old pieces means that less stuff ends up in landfills (even if you’re donating things, you never know where they will end up). Who knew that re-wearing last year’s duds would be so green? Also, there is still something to be said for quality investment pieces that are meant to go through seasons and not be tossed aside come fall. These are just the kind of garments that should be restyled, so they last a life time.
3. It’s sentimental.
What we wear says a lot about who we are and what we want to express to the world. The garments you buy and the places you bought them, wore them, or danced in them–they tell a story and hold memories of times in your life. It’s always nice to go shopping for new clothes, but nicer at times to pull out a sentimental piece that actually means something to you.
